Ropemaking and Basketry with found natural materials

Sunday 10th June 2018

10am til 4pm

The Hub, Quarry Farm, Bodiam, East Sussex

In this class you will get a chance to experiment with a variety of natural materials like grasses, rushes, leaves, seaweed. You will learn rope/cord making skills and the traditional basketry skill of coiling. These techniques will then be used to make a mat or small basket. You will also learn about how to process materials before use. You can bring materials that you have collected yourself and/or try the materials supplied. Prior to the class you will be advised on the type of materials to collect if you want to try your own and we will also look at some materials around the site where the class is held for their potential in basketry.
